This may come as a surprise to many of you but I will start by saying that social media is a ‘vital’ part of your SEO strategy. What? Yes, I said vital and I’ll get right to why I feel this way.

Why is social media important for SEO?

Social media is everywhere and is only growing in popularity with new platforms arriving on a regular basis for us to discover. It’s this reason alone that search engines are waking up to their value and they are factoring into SEO.

Is this true for all social media platforms? Absolutely not! Knowing which ones to use and how to use them is where this blog got it’s spark.

How do you know which social media platforms to use?

This will require a little research but whatever you decide pick just a few and work them really well.

Where are your readers or your customers hanging out? If you’re a retail store that caters to teens or pre-teens you will likely do well with Instagram, Tumblr, and even Snapchat. If you’re looking to work business to business you need to focus more on sites like Linked In that are designed specifically for B2B. A design company will want to spend more time working Pintrest and Instagram where they can post beautiful collections of their work and if you’re a business looking to attract local traffic a platform such as Facebook might be the place for you.

You might just be a business that can be placed on all social media platforms but if you choose to jump right in remember to be careful this can be a full time job!

If you don’t know where to start with all of this consider using a marketing company like Sparkitects. We work with companies and individuals to help you determine who your audience is and how to get you in front of them using the various social media options. We create rich and engaging content that is designed to keep your readers and customers coming back for more!
